This summer Bristol-Myers Squibb and Syracuse University marked its 16th year of providing a week-long science adventure for local 7th and 8th grade students. The program, which is fully funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb, is designed to encourage students’ interest in science and technology and to foster interest in science-related careers. One student from each of the middle schools in Onondaga County was selected to participate in the program.
This year’s students were given the opportunity to explore hands-on activities in chemistry, green building design, geology, physics, and strength and stamina. They learned about animal anatomy, sports medicine, ornithology, insects, the science of fire and geocaching, and visited Syracuse Stage, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Waste Management, Solvay Paperboard, and Spring Side Farm.
