University College Academic Advisors are available to provide individual advice and assistance to students. Your advisor will help you at every step throughout your degree program in areas such as:
- Identifying your degree requirements and options.
- Evaluating your transcripts.
- Identifying educational and financial services.
- Monitoring your progress.
- Assisting in considering career options.
- Making appropriate referrals to other campus offices.
As a part-time University College student, we encourage you to ask questions, gather information, and explore options so that you and your advisor can develop a meaningful academic plan. Advising appointments are available Monday-Thursday, 9 AM – 7 PM, and Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM.
Useful forms:
Intra-University Transfer - Are you an SU student interested in transferring from full-time to part-time studies? University College, Syracuse University's division of part-time education, is here to help you start the transfer process. Visit the web site for more information on the Intra-University transfer process.
Declaration of Major - A complete listing of all available majors appears in the Undergraduate Course Catalog. To formally declare a major you must complete the Declaration of Major form, obtain appropriate signatures, and UC students should return the form to UC for processing.
Declaration of Minor - A minor is a grouping of 6 or more courses, totaling 18 to 21 credits, of which 12 are usually in 300- to 400-level courses. The department or college offering the minor determines which classes are required. A complete list of all available minors appears in the Undergraduate Course Catalog. To formally declare the minor you must complete the Declaration of Minor form, obtain appropriate signatures, and UC students should return the form to UC for processing.
Petition to Faculty - The petition to faculty is used to request transfer credit to the major, substitution of a course for a requirement, and many other purposes. For more information, contact your UC academic advisor.
Independent Study, Experience Credit, and Internship Proposals - All students registering for individualized independent study, experience credit, and/or an internship must make arrangements with a faculty sponsor prior to registration. Click here for Independent Study and Experiences credit proposal forms or for Internship Proposal forms.
The forms must have the signatures of the faculty sponsor, the chairperson of the department in which the student is taking the course, and the dean of the student’s primary college. The form must accompany registration. If you are a graduate student, you do not need your dean’s signature.

During the summer, all students should return the signed above-mentioned forms to UC. |
Request for Incomplete Grade - The grade of “I” (incomplete) may be granted to a student only if it can be demonstrated that it would be unfair to hold the student to the normal limits of the course. Illness, job conflict, or other exceptional circumstances are the usual basis for consideration. To receive an incomplete, you must complete the Request for Incomplete Form and obtain appropriate signatures. The form represents a contract between you and the faculty member and specifies the reason for granting an incomplete and the conditions and time limit for removing it. The Request for Incomplete Form must be returned to UC for processing.
